ACCAN demos Real-Time Text tech in Australian Parliament
The new Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN) held a demonstration of Real-Time Text (RTT) to Australian politicians, staff and others. Using the AnnieS mobile RTT service via Blackberries and the web client, people were able to watch demonstrators - and to use the terminals themselves - show how RTT was quite different from IM and SMS and email.
Although RTT was designed for people with disabilities, ACCAN says it is a natural extension of voice telephony. "For instance, RTT can be used in noisy environments, or when you want to communicate during a meeting when voice is not appropriate. It is also very useful for conveying information where exact spelling is important during a voice call."
